Oregon welcomes the Alliance of Technology and Women
The Microsoft Innovation Center [MIC] at Portland State University is proud to announce its founding and sponsorship of the Oregon chapter of the Alliance of Technology and Women [ATW].
The Microsoft Innovation Center brings yet another win to Oregon’s technology community
Founded by Microsoft and a consortium of its partners (Ascentium, Centerlogic and Netdesk), the MIC was created as an educational and
industry hub whose goal is to drive the Oregon economic development through education and technology innovation. Since the MIC opened its
doors on the Portland State University campus in September of 2006, it has been reaching out to the Oregon community through a variety of
initiatives in connecting business with education. The addition of the ATW chapter promises to be yet another successful initiative
championed by the MIC and its partners.
The ATW is an organization whose mission is to support women and men worldwide who share the common interests of empowering women in technology,
increasing the number of women in executive roles and encouraging women and young ladies to enter technology fields. The goals set
forth by the organization to achieve this mission are three-part:
- Educate members on technology and management trends
- Offer personal and professional development
- Provide opportunities for women to connect with fellow professionals and build relationships and alliances with business leaders
In addition, it provides mentorship through hosting programs for members and young women to access positive role models in technology fields.
With chapters nationwide Oregon is proud to launch its first chapter with hopes of it being the most active chapter in the nation. ATW delivers
value most effectively at the community level. While programs are developed nationally they are delivered locally based upon community need.
The emphasize on the need of technology women executives will be a niche not served by any other organization.
The Oregon chapter will have its first official kickoff event on April 17, 2007. The event will be hosting a PANEL of
WOMEN TECHNOLOGY EXECUTIVES in OREGON. The focus of the panel will be tips, tricks and lessons learned for managing your career
in technology in Oregon. It will be preceded by appetizers and local wine. The event will be hosted by the MIC partners at the
Microsoft Office at Lincoln Tower by Washington Square.
